This is not written in stone ..... but here is some guidelines to help with your vintage cards.
Mint: No flaws of anykind. Smooth edges. Four perfect cornors. This is were a professional grading company comes in to determine this.
Near mint (NRMT) only 1 of the following....Very slightly rough edges, very slight wear on 1 corner, "minor"color or focus imperfections or printing spots. Centering 70/30 or 60/40. Card must have original gloss and color to the borders.
Excellent-Mint (EX-MT) only 1 or 2 of the following....slightly rough edges, very minor border discoloration, minor print spots, color or focus imperfections. 1 to 2 cornors could have slight wear. Centering no worse than 80/20. Card must have original gloss.
Excellent (EX) only 2 maybe 3 of the following....four cornors could be fuzzy. Minor border discolorations and minor print spots or color or focus imperfections. Little of the orginal gloss lost, slight rough edges. Minor wax on front or back. Centering no worse than 80/20.
Very good (VG)....This is card that has been handled but not abused. Slighlty rounded corners, or a minor ding, some rough edges, print spots, color or focus imperfections. Some gloss lost from the surface, but no scuffing. Wax on front or back. May have a hairline crease or two. Centering no worse than 90/10.
Good (G)....Card has been handled and is starting to be abused. Cornors may be rounded. Creases are not hairline, may have 2 or 3. Orginal gloss is gone. Major border discoloration, rough edges, wax on front or back. Color, focus problems. May have minor tape or tack hole.
Fair (F), Poor (P) ...Card is well worn or abused. Writing on front or back. Badly rounded cornors and layered cornors. Orginal gloss is gone. Major border discoloration and serious creases. Tape and tack holes can be seen. May have been glued.
The grades of Good, Fair and Poor depends upon the problems of the card.
